Love, Freddie by Lesley-Ann Jones promises to challenge everything we think we know about one of the most iconic figures in 20th-century music — Freddie Mercury.

Provocative, emotional, and undeniably intriguing, the book returns to Mercury’s life with a series of startling new claims.

According to Jones, Mercury kept personal diaries — seventeen notebooks spanning from 1976 to just weeks before his death. Even more controversially, the book suggests that he had a secret daughter, born in 1976 as a result of an affair with a married woman within his close circle.

The child — referred to only as “B” — is said to have been raised in secrecy, but with Mercury’s support until the end of his life. In a handwritten letter included in the book, she writes:

“Freddie Mercury was and remains my father. We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the last fifteen years of his life. He adored me and was devoted to me.”

Little is publicly known about B, aside from her age and the fact that she works as a medical professional in Europe, far from the spotlight.

Between Revelation and Uncertainty

Love, Freddie is not a conventional biography. It presents itself as an intimate portrait built on what are described as authentic personal materials — diaries, letters, photographs, and previously unpublished recollections.

Through these sources — if verified — the book reveals a more introspective side of Mercury: a man navigating identity, fame, love, and mortality, all against the backdrop of an extraordinary musical career.

Jones claims to have spent years investigating the story, analyzing documents provided directly by B. She describes the diaries as deeply emotional and filled with personal reflections no one had previously suspected.

Yet the narrative is far from universally accepted.

Mary Austin, Mercury’s longtime confidante, has categorically denied the existence of such diaries or a child. Meanwhile, Brian May has chosen to remain neutral, while Anita Dobson has dismissed the claims as “fake news.”

Crucially, no DNA evidence, official documentation, or independent authentication of the alleged diaries has been made public. For many critics, this lack of transparency raises serious questions about the book’s credibility.

The Author Behind the Claims

Lesley-Ann Jones is a seasoned British journalist with over three decades of experience in cultural reporting. She is the author of several bestselling biographies, including works on John Lennon and David Bowie, and frequently appears in documentaries and media discussions about rock and pop legends.

As she states:

“The truth is not always comfortable, especially when it challenges our perception of our heroes. But I believe the public deserves to know the person — not just the icon.”

Legacy or Sensation?

Love, Freddie stands at the intersection of revelation and controversy.

It is a story built on the promise of intimacy — but shadowed by unanswered questions.

Whether it will be remembered as the most personal portrait of Freddie Mercury, or as another contested attempt at reshaping his legacy, remains to be seen.
